Appraisals

SCAMPI Appraisals

A SCAMPI “A” Appraisal is a fascinating journey of organizational-discovery that determines the strengths and weaknesses of your engineering or software organization. Using the rigorous Standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process Improvement (SCAMPI) methodology, it provides a consistent result that is intended to lead to a Maturity or Capability Level Rating. An Appraisal is not an audit, but a collaborative set of events that includes your organization, an executive sponsor, a licensed SEI Partner, and your SEI Certified SCAMPI Lead Appraiser.

A SCAMPI “A” Appraisal is the only class of appraisal that leads to a formal rating, and it is the only method that verifies that your organization is performing at a Maturity Level Two, Three, Four, or Five.  SCAMPI “B” and “C” Appraisals are also excellent tools for evaluating your current state as you get closer to your final appraisal milestone, reducing risk and uncovering new strengths and weaknesses prior to the final event.

Planning for your SCAMPI “A” appraisal begins at least six months prior to the event and is intended to help you meet the performance goals of your organization. Your Lead Appraiser will work closely with you, carefully planning and helping you assemble a program that will reduce risk and ensure that your desired outcome is reached.

Each of our clients has unique goals, and will customize their plan and approach.  The most typical sequence of events includes:

  1. SCAMPI “C” Appraisal
  2. CMMI Program Planning
  3. CMMI Training as needed
  4. Design, Develop, and Deploy process components as needed
  5. Appraisal Planning
  6. Readiness Review with go/no-go decision
  7. SCAMPI Team Training
  8. SCAMPI “B” Appraisal
  9. Readiness Review if required
  10. SCAMPI “A” Appraisal
  11. Celebrate!
